Turkey cooks quickly, making this a practical weeknight version of the American sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 500 g ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 180 ml tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 4 burger buns

Step-by-step method

  1. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat and cook onion and bell pepper for 4–5 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds, then add the turkey.
  3. Break the turkey apart and cook for 6–7 minutes until no pink remains and excess moisture has evaporated.
  4. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and brown sugar.
  5. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce is thick enough to sit in a bun without running out.
  6. Taste and adjust with a pinch of salt or a splash of water if the mixture is too thick.
  7. Toast the buns lightly, spoon in the hot turkey mixture and serve immediately.
